THreE classic MOFFAT cycles

3 days / 250 km

.

A TRISKELION is an ancient Celtic symbol with three spirals often symbolising birth, life, and death. The three loops of the Moffat Triskelion don’t symbolise anything quite so profound – but they do symbolise three cracking circular road cycling routes!

Taken together, these three routes of 75-100km offer you a challenge that can be completed in a short holiday.

Each route starts and ends in the old spa town of Moffat, Dumfriesshire, with its wealth of accommodation, pubs, restaurants and independent shops. Each route takes you through some of southern Scotland’s finest landscape. And each of the three routes has at least one spot where you can find refreshments and a bite for lunch.

We’ve got it all! Quiet, wide open roads, mountain passes, winding hill climbs, ancient castles, waterfalls, reservoirs, lochs, an Iron Age fort, the highest inhabited villages in Scotland, a Tibetan Monastery, rushing rivers and wild forests…

Ride the three routes independently, or take one of our guided tours, and see for yourself!

The Triskelion

The Triskelion is 250km of stunning road cycling broken into three loops that start and finish in Moffat, Dumfriesshire, southern Scotland.

West Loop (100km)

The most demanding loop! Two stunning mountain passes (Mennock and Dalveen), Scotland’s highest altitude villages (Wanlockhead and Leadhills), the impressive Drumlanrig Castle, and some gentle single track roads along the banks of the River Nith. Download the GPX file HERE.

South East Loop (75km)

The most off-the-beaten-path loop! the sleepy hamlet of Newton Wamphray, the Eskdalemuir forest, Samye Ling (the oldest Tibetan Buddhist centre in the West), the ancient history of Castle O’er, and the little travelled road over Corrie Common. Download the GPX file HERE

North Loop (75km)

Possibly the most spectacular of the three loops: The Devil’s Beeftub climb, the Wall of Talla climb, Talla and Megget reservoirs, St Mary’s Loch and Loch of the Lowes, and the towering Grey Mare’s Tail waterfall! Download the GPX file HERE
